The 4 Gadgets Everyone's Talking About This Week

From a shrinking smart ring to a $4,000 luxury speaker — the trending tech of the last seven days

💍 Oura Ring 5

Wearable Black smart ring with visible circuitry held between two fingers

Oura shipped its fifth-generation smart ring this summer, and it's still the wearable people are talking about heading into August. The Ring 5 is roughly 40% smaller than its predecessor, making it the smallest smart ring on the market, while managing a full week of battery life on a single charge — no small feat for a device that size.

What's driving the buzz isn't just the shrink-down. Oura paired the launch with software updates that push the ring further into clinical territory: blood pressure signals, nighttime breathing insights, GLP-1 tracking, and live activity tracking that surfaces pace and distance right on a phone's lock screen during a run or ride. For a company that made its name on sleep scores, this is a clear move toward becoming a genuine health-monitoring platform rather than just a fitness accessory.

⌚ Google Fitbit Air

Fitness Tracker Black screenless fitness tracker band

Google's answer to the Whoop-style screenless band has become one of the most talked-about wearables of the summer. The Fitbit Air is a 5.2-gram cylindrical module — about 12 grams once clipped into a band — that ditches the display entirely in favor of four status LEDs, haptic buzzes, and a companion Google Health app that does all the heavy lifting.

At $99.99 (a Stephen Curry special edition runs $129.99), it undercuts most premium screenless trackers while still delivering 24/7 heart rate monitoring, detailed sleep analysis, and up to a week of battery life. It's 25% smaller than the outgoing Fitbit Luxe and half the size of the Inspire 3, and it works across both Android and iOS — a notable departure from Google keeping features locked to its own ecosystem.

📷 GoPro Mission 1 Pro

Action Camera Black GoPro-style action camera

Reviewers are calling this GoPro's most serious camera in years. The Mission 1 Pro shoots 8K60 and 8K30 open-gate footage, 4K at up to 240fps for dramatic slow motion, and 50-megapixel RAW stills, all wrapped in a rugged compact body aimed at filmmakers and creators rather than just weekend adventurers.

Larger 1.6-micron pixels at 8K and fused 3.2-micron pixels in 4K Quad Bayer mode give it noticeably better low-light performance than previous generations, while a 2.6-inch rear touchscreen and a smaller front-facing display make vlog-style framing far easier. Battery life is being singled out as best-in-class among action cameras. It sits atop a broader Mission 1 lineup that includes a lower-spec standard model and a Micro Four Thirds version for creators who want interchangeable lenses.

🔊 KEF LS Luxe

Luxury Audio Small bookshelf-style speaker on a shelf

KEF is calling the LS Luxe its most ambitious speaker to date, and the audiophile world has spent the past week debating whether it lives up to the claim. Designed in collaboration with industrial designer Ross Lovegrove, the wireless bookshelf speakers pair KEF's 12th-generation 6.5-inch Uni-Q driver — the same core technology found in the acclaimed LS50 — with a new Metamaterial Absorption Technology and a debut feature called Velocity Control Technology, aimed at tightening bass response and sharpening clarity.

The pair comes in three finishes — Dusk Titanium, Eclipse Black, and Mineral White — and connects via HDMI, AirPlay, and standard wireless streaming for a genuinely no-compromise home hi-fi setup. It isn't cheap: the LS Luxe lists at $3,999.99 in the US, positioning it firmly at the top of KEF's lineup and squarely against six-figure legacy hi-fi brands.

The Permission You Forgot You Granted: A 30-Minute Audit of Every App Connected to Your Accounts

Practical Tutorial — Thursday, September 17, 2026 The Permission You Forgot You Granted A 30-minute audit of every app still holding a key to your accounts GB GadgetGlow Bytes Editorial Published September 17, 2026 · 8 min read · How we work Changing your password does not log out the apps you connected to your account. Neither does turning on two-factor authentication. An OAuth grant — the thing that happens when you click "Continue with Google" or "Allow" on a permissions screen — issues a token that keeps working on its own schedule, independent of your password and usually independent of your second factor. Most people have granted dozens of them. Almost nobody has read the list back. This is a single-topic tutorial: find every third-party app holding access to your Google, Microsoft and Apple accounts, work out what each one can actually reach, and cut the ones that no longer earn their place. It takes about thirty minute...
