Introduction
On June 9, 2025, Apple kicked off WWDC 2025 from its Cupertino campus, unveiling sweeping updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, TV and Vision Pro. Developers and fans alike will soon dive into bolder visuals, smarter AI and tighter ecosystem ties.
Liquid Glass: A Sleek New Look
Apple’s standout reveal is “Liquid Glass,” a design that adds fluid, reflective surfaces to icons, menus and controls. First seen on Vision Pro, this aesthetic flows into iOS 26, macOS 26 (Tahoe), iPadOS and more, giving every tap and swipe a sense of depth and motion.
Version Names by Year
To make OS versions crystal clear, Apple has aligned numbering with the calendar: you’ll see iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26. macOS jumps straight to “Tahoe 26,” matching its release year.
macOS Tahoe: Big Desktop Upgrades
Tahoe brings Liquid Glass to the Mac, vastly improved Spotlight search and, for the first time, a built-in Phone app that lets you handle iPhone calls right on your desktop.
Smarter On-Device AI
Apple Intelligence gains real-time translation in messages and calls, plus Visual Intelligence that recognizes on-screen items to suggest events or web searches. Image Playground plugs into ChatGPT for instant image creation, and on-device AI models are now open to third-party apps—keeping everything private and offline when you want it.
iPad Multitasking Gets Even Better
iPadOS 26 gives you floating windows and drag-and-drop that feel closer to a Mac. The new Journal app arrives on iPad and Mac, too, letting you jot notes with doodles, videos or voice memos in a playful workspace.
CarPlay & Messages Refresh
CarPlay gains context-aware widgets that adapt to your car’s dashboard, while Messages gets animated backgrounds and customizable chat wallpapers to make your conversations pop.
Vision Pro Meets PSVR2
visionOS 26 adds support for PlayStation VR2 controllers and introduces spatial widgets for a more intuitive mixed-reality experience.
End of the Intel Mac Era
Apple confirmed that Tahoe will be the last major update for Intel-based Macs. Those machines will still get security patches until 2028, but no new features beyond this release.
Rollout Timeline
Public betas arrive in July, with the full release expected between September and October 2025—just in time to explore the next generation of Apple’s software universe.
